AI tools target smarter fleet operations on and off the road

Modul-System UK is trialling Workspace Intelligence, an AI-powered platform that analyses how engineers actually use their van load space. Using cameras to create a two-week heatmap of tool and equipment movements, the system combines this with job data to identify opportunities to improve productivity, ergonomics and vehicle layouts.

The first trial is underway with gas infrastructure company SGN, which hopes the insights will reduce unnecessary movement and create safer, more efficient working environments.

Away from the vehicle itself, Kinto Join has launched a digital workplace parking platform that helps organisations allocate spaces more effectively. Using spatial mapping and live occupancy data, employers can prioritise EV charging bays, car sharers and employees with additional mobility needs, while encouraging drivers to move vehicles once charging is complete.

Research published alongside the launch suggests there is significant demand for smarter workplace parking:

  • 47% of commuters would car share if it guaranteed a parking space
  • 32% say workplace charging would encourage them to switch to an EV
  • 36% believe their workplace doesn't provide enough parking
  • 21% have worked from home simply to avoid parking issues
