Attitudes to recharging times are changing

Long charging times and a lack of public charging stations have long hindered electric vehicle (EV) adoption. However, a recent survey by Deloitte suggests changing attitudes among US consumers.
The survey, which gathered around 31,000 responses from 30 countries, indicated that charging time may be viewed as a ‘softening barrier’. Notably, 77% of US respondents expressed willingness to wait up to 40 minutes to charge their vehicles from zero to 80%, which aligns with the DC fast-charging capabilities of many current EVs. While fast-charging remains a priority, most respondents are comfortable waiting between 21 and 40 minutes.

Additionally, 44% prefer dedicated EV charging stations over petrol stations with chargers.
The study also revealed that 79% of US consumers who plan to buy an EV intend to charge at home. This contrasts with previous studies highlighting concerns over charge times and costs, and suggests that advancements in EV technology may soon exceed consumer expectations.
