The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has launched a new digital tool designed to help drivers assess their vehicle's condition before handing it back at the end of a lease.
Developed with vehicle condition specialist Wondle, Return Ready allows drivers to compare any damage they have identified against the BVRLA's Fair Wear and Tear Guide for Cars, giving them clearer guidance on whether repairs may be needed before the vehicle is returned.
The tool is designed to reduce uncertainty around the end-of-contract process by helping drivers understand what is, and is not, considered acceptable wear and tear before a formal inspection takes place.
Importantly, Return Ready does not replace the official vehicle inspection, provide repair cost estimates or apply individual leasing company policies. Instead, it acts as an educational resource, enabling drivers to identify potential issues early and make informed decisions before returning their vehicle.
Now available to customers of BVRLA member companies, the platform will initially operate as a pilot while feedback is gathered from drivers and leasing providers.
For fleets, the tool could help reduce avoidable end-of-contract disputes and unexpected recharge costs by encouraging drivers to inspect their vehicles before collection. It also provides fleet managers with a consistent reference point based on the industry's Fair Wear and Tear standards, helping improve communication with drivers and support smoother vehicle returns.
