BYD Dolphin G DM-i priced from £23,990

BYD has opened UK orders for the Dolphin G DM-i, with prices starting from £23,990 and first deliveries expected in September.

The compact plug-in hybrid will be available in four specifications. Active costs £23,990, followed by Boost at £26,990, Comfort at £28,490 and Sport at £29,940.

Entry-level Active models use a 7.4kWh battery and provide up to 24.8 miles of electric range.

Boost, Comfort and Sport versions receive a larger 18.3kWh battery. This increases the claimed electric range to 65 miles and provides a total petrol-electric range of up to 646 miles.

The larger-battery models produce a claimed 32g/km of CO2 and support DC charging at up to 39kW. A 10% to 80% recharge takes around 26 minutes.

Boot capacity stands at 425 litres, increasing to 1225 litres with the rear seats folded.

Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, parking sensors, navigation and smartphone connectivity.

The Dolphin G gives fleets a plug-in alternative to hybrid superminis such as the Toyota Yaris and Renault Clio E-Tech.

Its strongest fleet case will be for drivers who can charge regularly and complete most daily journeys within the 65-mile electric range.
