Chinese Super-Hybrid technology revealed

Chinese car brands Omoda and Jaecoo are launching new models equipped with the innovative Super Hybrid System (SHS), a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Jaecoo 7 SHS, formerly known as the Jaecoo 7 PHEV, will be the first UK vehicle to feature this technology.

The SHS combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a hybrid transmission and an 18.3kWh battery, delivering a zero-emission range of up to 56 miles, an impressive fuel economy of 403mpg, and a combined output of 352PS. Unlike traditional PHEVs, the SHS maintains the battery's charge throughout operation.

Peter Matkin, Jaecoo’s chief engineer, described the SHS as a significant advancement in the expanding new energy vehicle market, offering improved driving performance and greater fuel efficiency.

In November 2024, Jaecoo revealed pricing for the 7 SHS, starting at £29,435 for petrol variants and £35,065 for hybrid models. Additional Omoda and Jaecoo models featuring the SHS technology are anticipated in the near future.
