Digital tachograph management could remove a fleet admin burden

Managing tachograph infringements could become quicker and easier as more compliance processes move away from paper and email.

FleetCheck and VDO have developed an integration that automatically transfers driving-hours infringements recorded by VDO into FleetCheck. The relevant driver then receives a notification through the FleetCheck app to review, acknowledge and digitally sign the infringement.

Future development is expected to provide a central dashboard showing where infringements occur and which drivers are involved.

For truck and qualifying van fleets, the benefit is less administration and a stronger audit trail.

Managers should use the development as a prompt to identify compliance processes still relying on spreadsheets, emails or physical signatures. Existing fleet systems may already offer integrations capable of removing repetitive work.

Automation should not replace investigation or driver conversations when infringements occur. It can, however, make sure records are captured consistently and repeat issues are easier to identify.

The technology will be showcased at the FORS Conference on 29 September.
