Driver exoneration is now a primary motivation behind fleet safety technology investment, according to new research from Teletrac Navman. Its Mobilising the Future of Fleets: 2026 Risk and Exoneration Edition report found that 84% of fleets cite exonerating drivers as a leading reason for deploying safety systems.
Among fleets that experienced collisions in the past 12 months, 53% said they were able to successfully clear a driver of fault. The study also highlights growing external pressures, with 34% of fleets impacted by fraudulent motor claims and 77% agreeing that rising litigation and legal costs are a global concern.
The research shows technology stacks are becoming more sophisticated: 56% of fleets now use five or more risk-management technologies, while 74% combine telematics with dashcams. Nearly three-quarters (70%) said this pairing significantly reduced claims processing time.
Teletrac Navman added that 85% of fleets have offset rising insurance costs since adopting safety tech, with 65% reporting lower premiums.
Alain Samaha, chief executive officer at Teletrac Navman, said: “Video telematics is now the most powerful tool to provide irrefutable, contextual evidence that protects people, preserves reputations and stabilises margins.”
