DfT-backed facts campaign to dispel myths and unfounded negativity surrounding ZEV

FleetWise is backing The Facts campaign, a Department for Transport-endorsed initiative led by Autotrader, ChargeUK and the SMMT, which aims to challenge misconceptions around electric vehicles (EVs) with clear, data-backed evidence.

"The information could be really useful for fleet managers to distribute to their drivers, to enhance EV buy-in," says FleetWise Editor, John Sootheran. "There is so much unfounded negativity surrounding electric vehicles on social media, that it's about time someone brought some balance to the debate. FleetWise will enthusiastically support the campaign to help spread the news far and wide."

The inaugural edition of the quarterly update highlights how the price gap between new EVs and petrol/diesel models has narrowed to just 19% (£8,299), compared with 33% a year ago. More than 37 EVs are now priced under £30,000, including fleet-friendly models such as the Renault 5 (£21,495) and MG4 (£27,245).

The launch of the government’s Electric Car Grant in July has already driven the biggest spike in EV demand on Autotrader in three years, with some manufacturers also introducing their own discounts. Meanwhile, charging capacity continues to scale, with 85,163 public charge points now live across the UK.
