US start-up Lucid Motors has launched its Gravity SUV in Europe, offering a look at where large electric family cars could be heading – although it isn’t currently planned for the UK.
The Gravity is a full-size, seven-seat electric SUV with up to 465 miles of claimed range and performance figures that rival high-end models, including 0–62mph in 3.6 seconds. It’s built in Arizona and positioned firmly in the premium segment, with European pricing starting at around £85,000 and rising beyond £100,000 once specified.

That puts it closer to models like the Volvo EX90 and Mercedes EQS SUV than the newer wave of lower-cost Chinese SUVs entering the UK market.
What stands out isn’t just the performance, but how it uses its electric platform. There’s proper space for seven adults, a usable boot even with all seats in place, and a front storage area that’s been designed with real-world use in mind. In practice, it feels closer to an MPV in how it works day-to-day, despite its SUV shape.
The bigger question is where it fits. With Chinese brands gaining ground on price and specification, and established manufacturers still leaning on brand and heritage, the Gravity represents a different approach – a Western-built EV focused on efficiency, space and technology rather than legacy.
It doesn’t solve the cost pressures fleets are facing, but it does point to a different direction. If more brands follow this route, the choice may not be limited to legacy versus low-cost entrants.
