Gridserve rolls out ultra-rapid 400kW charger — delivering 100 miles in under 10 minutes

Gridserve is introducing ABB’s new A400 ultra-rapid charger to its Electric Highway, launching the first units at Centaurus Park in Bristol, just off the M5 (J17). The company says the upgrade marks a major leap in charging performance — and a sign of what’s coming across its nationwide network.

The A400 delivers up to 400kW, enabling the newest fleet EVs to add more than 100 miles of range in under 10 minutes. With dual CCS ports, two vehicles can charge at the same time, giving high-mileage operators a faster turnaround during busy periods.

“Our goal has always been to make EV charging as dependable as filling up with petrol or diesel,” said Rebecca Trebble, Gridserve’s chief customer officer. “Introducing the A400 sets a new benchmark for performance and reliability.”

The hardware is backed by Gridserve’s 24/7 Innovation and Operations Centre, which monitors chargers in real time to improve uptime and reduce faults. The new model complies with UK Public Charging Point Regulations and features a 32-inch touchscreen to simplify the plug-in and payment process.

Gridserve has already confirmed more A400 deployments are planned, signalling wider access to ultra-rapid charging for fleets needing consistent, high-power infrastructure along strategic routes.
