Cornwall-based heating and electrical company Blue Flame Ltd is expecting to save around 60 tonnes of CO2 a year after replacing 20 diesel vans with electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz models.
The fleet upgrade, completed with vehicle conversion specialist bott, also cuts diesel mileage by more than 200,000 miles annually.
Beyond emissions savings, Blue Flame focused on improving day-to-day efficiency. Each van was fitted with tailored racking for installers, engineers and electricians, making tools and parts easier to find and reducing time lost searching for equipment. Standardised layouts also mean any engineer can use any vehicle with minimal disruption.

“The organisation of our vans has improved dramatically,” said Grant Doe, Operations Director at Blue Flame. “Tools and parts are now easy to locate, reducing downtime and allowing our engineers to work more efficiently.”
Standardised layouts also mean any engineer can use any vehicle with minimal disruption, while crash-tested storage improves safety by securing equipment properly in transit.
Blue Flame says the upgrade has also improved morale. “Our team spends a lot of time in these vans, so having vehicles they’re proud of boosts morale and job satisfaction,” Doe added.
