Is Fiat’s Ducato the best new van for 2026?

Fiat may be best known for the 500, but the Ducato remains a serious player in the large van market and its latest update is aimed squarely at cost-focused operators. With body lengths stretching beyond 6.3 metres and load volumes ranging from 10m³ to 17m³, the Ducato continues to offer flexibility for fleets needing space without stepping up to specialist vehicles.

A recent facelift brings a refreshed cabin, improved infotainment and extra safety technology, while efficiency gains mean fuel economy is up by around five percent. Fiat claims 44.0mpg for an L3H2 manual, falling to 40.6mpg with the automatic. Under the bonnet, the familiar 2.2-litre diesel delivers 138bhp in sub-3.5-tonne models, with heavier variants offering 177bhp.

Crucially for fleets, pricing undercuts most mainstream rivals and payloads reach up to 1500kg, rising to 2030kg on heavier versions. As reviewer Phil Huff notes: “It’s cheaper than most rivals, and quite economical, but I don’t think the difference is enough to make up for the Ducato’s shortcomings.” For operators prioritising value and capacity over the latest driving tech, the Ducato still makes a solid business case for 2026.
