With fuel prices rising sharply again, Lightfoot says fleets need to focus less on predicting costs and more on controlling them.
The company has updated its driver coaching system so it can now be installed in minutes using a plug-and-play device, removing the need for engineer visits. Units connect directly via the vehicle’s OBD port, allowing fleets to roll out the technology quickly across high-consumption vehicles.
That speed matters. Recent price spikes have seen diesel rise by more than 30p per litre in a matter of weeks, making fuel one of the biggest and least predictable costs in fleet operations.
Lightfoot’s approach is simple: reduce consumption through better driving. The system monitors throttle use, engine load and speed in real time, giving drivers instant in-cab feedback to keep the vehicle operating efficiently.
Fleets can then track performance through its InsightHub platform, identifying where fuel is being wasted and where improvements are being made.
Rather than waiting out price swings, the model gives operators a way to act immediately – targeting the drivers and vehicles where the biggest savings can be made first.
As fuel volatility continues, tools that directly influence how vehicles are driven are becoming a more immediate lever for cost control.
