New premium Chinese brand, Denza, to hit the UK

Denza, the premium arm of the Chinese BYD Group, has officially launched in Europe, with cars arriving in the UK in 2026. The Denza line-up will include electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Positioned above BYD in the brand hierarchy, Denza offers higher-performance and more luxurious models. It enters a competitive segment dominated by established premium marques, like Audi and BMW, but benefits from BYD’s experience and a strong product base.

At the launch, Stella Li, BYD’s executive vice president, described Denza as a brand with 'European influence at its heart', blending elegant design, advanced tech and powerful performance. Denza will operate independently of BYD with its own sales network, bespoke dealerships, and dedicated aftersales service to ensure premium support.

The brand will debut with the Z9 GT, a four-door shooting brake designed by ex-Alfa and Lamborghini designer Wolfgang Egger. Available as a BEV or PHEV, the electric version uses Denza’s e3 platform with three electric motors and cell-to-body battery construction. This setup gives 965PS, 0–62mph in 3.4 seconds and a 100kWh battery offering nearly 400 miles of range. The plug-in hybrid variant combines a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and two motors to produce 869PS, with 0-62mph completed in 3.6 seconds.

The Z9 GT also features advanced rear-wheel steering, allowing for sideways manoeuvring, and a high-spec interior with three large digital screens, alongside physical switchgear.

Denza plans to expand its range to six or seven models in Europe, including an MPV and off-road vehicles, as it targets German premium rivals head-on.
