OCU Group cuts insurance costs by 42% in eight months with Samsara

OCU Group, a major infrastructure engineering business, turned to Samsara to tackle rising insurance costs and unreliable safety systems. Within just eight months, the company achieved a 42% reduction in total claim costs, a 28% drop in claim volumes and a 5% cut in premiums.

“For us, accident reporting was always a challenge given our fleet size and growth,” said Krishan Rathour, Head of Claims and Insurance. “With Samsara, we now have crash alerts, clear footage and driver behaviour insights to establish liability quickly. The feedback from our insurer has been brilliant.”

The company overcame initial concerns around camera use with open communication and manager-led workshops. “We made education our responsibility,” said Chris Shorey, Regional Plant & Transport Manager. “Once managers were engaged, adoption across drivers followed.”

Samsara’s AI Dashcams and telematics gave OCU Group real-time visibility, cutting speeding and mobile use while ensuring footage was always available for claims. The result was faster reporting, with 70% of claims now sent to insurers within 48 hours, down from 4–5 days.

Consolidating three legacy systems into one platform, OCU Group also gained a single source of truth for fleet data. “We’re now more proactive, making decisions based on clear evidence,” added Rathour. “It’s transformed how we manage risk.”
