Fleet operators are being urged to tighten their fine management processes as UK drivers face record levels of penalties.
Data from Hudson Kapel shows congestion charge-related fines have risen from 4% to 6% of all penalties processed, fuelled by the growth of low-emission and traffic control zones in cities like London, Birmingham and Manchester. Despite this, parking fines still dominate, accounting for 52% of all fleet-related penalties.
Nationally, DVLA data reveals private parking firms requested vehicle keeper details 7.2 million times in just six months—equivalent to 41,000 per day, up 12% year-on-year. With 14.5 million tickets expected in a year, enforcement is now driven by ANPR and AI-based systems, allowing for higher volumes and faster processing. In London alone, more than 8.3 million PCNs were issued last year, with parking and moving traffic offences both on the rise.
Hudson Kapel warns fleets to adopt technology-led processes and improve driver awareness to avoid escalating costs.
