The number of drivers caught speeding has risen sharply, adding fresh pressure on fleets to manage driver behaviour more closely.
New DVLA data shows 939,519 drivers received an SP30 speeding endorsement in 2025 for exceeding limits on public roads, up 32% from 678,367 in 2022. Government figures also show speeding contributed to 40% of all collisions in 2024.
For fleet managers, the issue goes beyond fines and penalty points. More incidents can mean higher insurance costs, vehicle downtime, reputational damage and increased duty-of-care risk for employers managing staff who drive for work.
One practical response is stronger driver risk monitoring. Tools from trusted fleet suppliers such as Lightfoot use real-time feedback to coach drivers on speed, harsh braking and acceleration habits. Telematics providers including Radius Fleet Solutions and Crystal Ball also help fleets spot repeat behaviours earlier through tracking, dash cams and driver data.
Policy reviews matter too. Clear scheduling, realistic delivery windows and regular licence checks can reduce the pressure that often leads to rushed driving.
With speeding becoming more common, prevention is likely to be cheaper than dealing with the fallout after a collision.
