Subaru starts in-house EV production as E-Outback enters build phase

Subaru Corporation has begun producing battery electric vehicles at its Gunma Yajima Plant, marking a key step in the brand’s electrification plans. The move includes production of the all-new Subaru E-Outback, following a series of factory upgrades completed earlier this year.

The site has been reconfigured to run a mixed-model production line, allowing electric, petrol and hybrid vehicles to be built side by side. For Subaru, this approach improves flexibility and helps the business respond more quickly to changing market demand as EV volumes grow.

The E-Outback is the second model in Subaru’s global BEV line-up, developed in partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation, alongside the Solterra and Uncharted. The long-running Subaru–Toyota collaboration, now more than 20 years old, continues to underpin development and manufacturing in the EV space.

The Subaru E-Outback is expected to arrive in the UK in summer 2026, with further details to be confirmed closer to launch.
