Tarmac Cuts Fuel Use by 30% with Geotab and Motormax Telematics Overhaul

Tarmac
has achieved a 30% boost in fuel efficiency and cut speeding incidents by a quarter across its 2,000-vehicle UK fleet, thanks to a new partnership with Geotab and Motormax.

The construction firm rolled out an integrated fleet management system combining Geotab’s telematics platform with Motormax’s multi-camera safety tech. Within three months, the system not only delivered significant fuel savings but also slashed idling by over 30% and improved driver behaviour with real-time feedback and targeted coaching.

Operating across 13 UK regions, the upgrade included fitting nearly 1,900 Geotab GO9 devices and connecting to over 300 OEM telematics systems in heavy equipment brands like Cat, JCB and Volvo. Fleet managers now have unified access to safety scores, maintenance alerts, and video footage via the MyGeotab platform.

Tarmac’s Jonathan Meddings said the project supports the company’s “Work Safe, Home Safe” philosophy. The successful rollout has also secured Geotab and Motormax preferred supplier status with Tarmac’s parent company, CRH Group, as the firm eyes a transition to an all-electric fleet by 2030.
