FleetCheck has urged HMRC to introduce a third advisory electricity rate (AER) for company car drivers to reflect the higher costs of rapid charging.
HMRC recently split the single reimbursement rate into 8ppm for home charging and 14ppm for public charging, based on slower chargers under 50kW. While FleetCheck welcomed the change, CEO Peter Golding said rapid charging costs can be double that of slower public chargers, making the 14ppm rate inadequate. He argued a three-tier system is needed, as rapid charging is often essential for fleets to keep vehicles on the road and maintain operational efficiency.
