Toyota goes plug-in only with RAV4 - plus confirms price

Toyota has confirmed details of the new sixth-generation Toyota RAV4, now offered exclusively as a plug-in hybrid.

The headline change is electric range. The new model delivers up to 85 miles on battery power alone, enough to cover many daily fleet journeys without using the petrol engine.

Under the bonnet, a 2.5-litre petrol engine is paired with a 22.7kWh battery. Output reaches 268PS (FWD) or 304PS (AWD), with the system reverting to hybrid mode once charge is depleted.

Charging has also improved, with 10-80% achievable in around 30 minutes via DC, or roughly three hours on AC.

Inside, the RAV4 introduces Toyota’s new Arene software platform, alongside a 12.9-inch display and updated safety systems as standard.

Four trims are available – Icon, Design, Excel and GR Sport – with higher grades adding features such as leather upholstery, upgraded audio and chassis enhancements.

For fleets, the longer EV range is the key shift. It brings the RAV4 closer to fully electric day-to-day use, while retaining the flexibility of a petrol backup.

Pricing starts from £43,845, placing it alongside rivals such as the Kia Sportage PHEV and Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid in the upper mid-size SUV segment.
