BMW has slotted a new entry point into its iX3 line-up – the rear-wheel-drive iX3 40, positioned as the entry-level model alongside the iX3 50 xDrive.
Priced from £53,250 OTR, the new BMW iX3 40 will be available in the UK from summer 2026, undercutting the dual-motor 50 by roughly £5500.
Built on the Neue Klasse platform, and featuring the brand's sixth-generation eDrive technology, the new variant is equipped with a single electric motor, delivering 235 kW and 500 Nm of torque. This drives the rear wheels, accelerating it from 0 to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds. It reaches a top speed of 124 mph.
With a capacity of 82.6 kWh, the battery uses cylindrical cells, and yields a WLTP range of up to 395 miles. The 800-volt architecture supports charging at up to 300kW, adding 186 miles in around 10 minutes.
Notably, standard equipment mirrors that of the higher-spec iX3 50 xDrive, meaning buyers sacrifice outright performance and all-wheel drive, rather than kit.
Demand has been strong, with much of 2026's planned 50 xDrive output already allocated.
