BMW iX3 earns five-star Euro NCAP safety rating

The new BMW iX3 has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating under the organisation’s tougher 2026 safety tests.

The revised assessment considers the full sequence of a collision. This includes crash prevention, occupant protection and post-crash safety, alongside the performance of driver-assistance systems.

Euro NCAP also assessed the iX3’s electrically operated flush door handles. BMW says they remained functional and accessible following the test impacts.

This will be relevant to fleet operators following concerns about whether electronic door systems could make it harder for occupants or emergency services to access a vehicle after a collision.

The five-star result adds another useful fleet credential to the electric SUV. The iX3 offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 500 miles, while its 800-volt electrical system supports rapid charging on longer journeys.

UK prices start from £58,755. This places the iX3 against premium electric SUVs such as the Audi Q6 e-tron, Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ and Porsche Macan Electric. As the list price is over £50,000, luxury car tax is also applicable, adding £425 to its annual Vehicle Excise Duty (VED).

For fleets, independent safety ratings provide a useful benchmark when comparing vehicles for company-car use, duty of care, and occupant protection.
