Volkswagen ID. Tiguan unveiled, replaces ID.4 and ID.5

Volkswagen has unveiled the new ID. Tiguan, an all-electric mid-size SUV set to replace the ID.4 and ID.5. It launches in early 2027 and is poised to be a volume model as more than 950,000 examples of the outgoing models have been built.

The new SUV will be offered with three powertrain options, including two rear-wheel-drive variants and a range-topping 4MOTION all-wheel-drive model. Power outputs range from around 190 to 300hp, with the largest 77kWh battery delivering a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 373-miles.

Towing capacity reaches 2,000kg on versions equipped with the 77kWh battery, while the 58kWh variant is rated to tow up to 1,800kg. Practicality is further supported by a 32-litre front storage compartment and a boot capacity of 534-litres (seats up).

Volkswagen has also redesigned the cabin, introducing a new display layout featuring a 10-inch digital instrument panel, 15-inch infotainment screen and an optional 12-inch passenger display. Similar to what sister brand, Audi offers in its recent models.

Other features include standard one-pedal driving and Connected Travel Assist, which can support motorway lane changes and recognise traffic lights. Optional equipment includes massaging and ventilated front seats, a 480W Harman Kardon sound system and a panoramic sunroof.

The interior also sees the return of physical buttons for key functions, alongside retro-inspired digital displays referencing classic VW models.

Four trim levels will be available: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line. Pre-sales in Germany and several other European markets are scheduled to begin on 13 October, with prices starting at €42,695 in Germany.

UK pricing and final specifications is yet to be announced, though the ID. Tiguan will launch alongside the combustion-powered Tiguan, which continues to offer petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains.
