BMW’s new i3 positions itself as the next-gen exec EV

BMW has revealed the new all-electric i3, the second model in its Neue Klasse line-up, and it looks like a serious statement of intent for company car drivers.

The headline figure is up to 900km of WLTP range, or about 560 miles, which would put it among the longest-range EVs on sale. It also gets 800-volt charging at up to 400kW, enough to add around 400km in 10 minutes if you find the right charger.

The first version will be the i3 50 xDrive, with twin motors, 469hp and 645Nm, so this is not just about efficiency. BMW is also leaning heavily into the in-car experience, with its new Panoramic iDrive display, updated voice control and a more driver-focused layout.

Long range means fewer charging stops, while faster charging helps on longer days behind the wheel. Production starts in August, with first UK deliveries expected in the autumn.
