Data tool shows 80% of fleet diesel vans already suitable for electrification

Most diesel vans in operation today could switch to electric without disrupting daily operations, according to new analysis from Northgate Vehicle Hire’s Drive to Zero Transition Hub. The platform found that 79% of 1,329 LCVs assessed between July 2024 and August 2025 were “EV-ready”.

The tool, developed with Diode, evaluates real fleet data — including routes, dwell times and charging opportunities at home, depots or frequent destinations. A van is classed as EV-ready if it can reliably take on more charge during downtime than it typically consumes in a day, even in winter.

With the 2026 ZEV mandate requiring 24% of new vans to be zero-emission, Northgate says the findings show far greater potential for fleets to electrify than many expect. More than 3,000 vans have now been assessed across housing, healthcare, highways, leisure and retail operations.

“Electrification can feel complex, but with the right data and support, it quickly becomes actionable,” said Josh Hooper, Northgate’s head of product and specialist sales. “Nearly 80% of vehicles assessed are already EV-ready.”

The Transition Hub provides tailored reports covering suitable EV replacements, charging strategies and cost/CO₂ impacts.
