BYD's premium brand Denza has confirmed UK pricing for its new Bao 5 plug-in hybrid SUV, with orders opening from £69,500 ahead of first deliveries in early 2027.
Positioned as a rival to the Land Rover Defender, the Bao 5 combines rugged off-road capability with premium technology and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, making it a potential option for executive fleets operating in rural, utility or infrastructure sectors.
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces 544PS, enabling a 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds, while a 31.8kWh battery delivers a 56-mile WLTP electric range. The 1.5-litre petrol engine can recharge the battery on the move or power the wheels directly, giving an official fuel economy of 68.9mpg.

Inside, the Bao 5 focuses on comfort and technology, with multiple digital displays, Google-powered infotainment, a head-up display and voice control capable of operating more than 300 vehicle functions. Higher-spec models also gain adaptive suspension, heated and ventilated seats and adjustable ride height for improved off-road performance.
For fleets, the Bao 5 reflects the growing ambition of Chinese manufacturers to compete in the premium SUV market. While its price places it firmly in the executive segment, its combination of electric driving capability, off-road credentials and generous standard technology could appeal to businesses looking for an alternative to established luxury 4x4s.
