EV public-charging costs plunge at peak times

In April, peak on-street EV charging dropped by 7p/kWh, while off-peak home charging fell by 1p, according to the AA EV Recharge Report. Despite a 2p/kWh rise in the Ofgem price cap, charging at home remains much cheaper, especially with off-peak tariffs as low as 5p/kWh. The cost gap between peak kerbside and at-home charging has narrowed to 7p/kWh. However, the introduction of standard VED for EVs may dampen buyer interest. Still, EVs remain cost-effective, with off-peak ultra-rapid charging a penny per mile cheaper than petrol, at 10.62p versus 11.77p, helping make the EV switch appealing for many.
