The Renault 5 has been hugely popular for fleets, thanks to its desirability and low running costs. Now, the retro supermini has received an update, which includes just a little bit more driving range.
The entry-level 40kWh model now has three more miles of range, upping the official WLTP figure to 196-miles. The more popular 52kWh variant has its range boosted from 255-miles to 267.
A brand new battery pack is on the way, consisting of a 36.5kWh lithium ion phosphate (LFP) battery that offers a claimed 190-miles of range. This is set to replace the 40kWh unit in the coming weeks, though it's introduction in the UK is still unconfirmed.
Additionally, you can now get the Renault 5 in red. The Rebel Red colour is borrowed from the badge-engineered Nissan Micra - built in the same factory in the French town of Douai. Gold trim and wheels are a new addition to Techno and Iconic trims, too - harking back to the Renault Clio Williams hot hatchback of the early 1990s.

Inside, there's a new wireless phone charger that claims to add 50% of charge in an hour. Plus, the Iconic trim now has seats finished in blue and grey rather than yellow.
Details on the updated 5 coming to the UK market haven't been revealed yet, with a European roll-out planned first. As of now, the current 40kWh and 52kWh variants are still available to order, which are eligible for the UK Government's Electric Car Grant (EGC) at £1,500 and £3,750, respectively.
