Lucid’s UK strategy focuses on scale over flagship EVs

The US EV start-up Lucid Motors plans to launch with a new mid-size SUV, the Cosmos, positioned as a rival to cars like the BMW iX3. A more rugged, off-road-focused model called the Earth is set to follow.

Notably, the brand’s existing models – including the Air saloon and Lucid Gravity – aren’t expected to arrive in the UK. While both have launched in Europe, converting them to right-hand drive would require additional investment.

While images of the Cosmos are still limited, it’s expected to follow Lucid’s clean, aerodynamic design approach. That typically means a smoother, more streamlined shape than traditional SUVs, closer to a crossover like the BMW iX3 than a boxier off-roader, with a lower, more car-like profile.

It also creates a contrast with Lucid’s more high-profile vehicles. While the Gravity SUV shows what the company can do at the top end of the market, the UK strategy is centred on more accessible, scalable models that are better suited to local demand.

For fleets, that means the cars likely to arrive will be closer in size, price and usability to existing premium electric SUVs, rather than the more experimental, high-end models seen elsewhere.
