Paul Holland, Corpay: Fleet payments are becoming a strategic management tool

As fleets transition towards a mix of internal combustion and electric vehicles, payment systems are evolving far beyond their traditional role. Speaking to 100 Trusted Brands in Fleet, Paul Holland, Managing Director UK/ANZ Vehicle Payments at Corpay, says modern payment platforms are becoming an essential part of fleet management itself.

According to Holland, the challenge facing today's fleet operators is no longer simply paying for fuel. Businesses must now manage fuel purchases, public charging, home charging reimbursement and workplace charging while maintaining visibility, compliance and cost control across every transaction.

"The future isn't about replacing one payment method with another,"

Holland explains.

"It's about giving fleets a single, integrated way to manage every journey, regardless of how the vehicle is powered."

He believes removing unnecessary administration is just as important as improving payment technology. By consolidating multiple payment methods into a single platform, fleets can reduce manual processes, improve reporting and provide drivers with a simpler experience.

Holland also highlights the growing importance of data. Every payment generates valuable operational insight, helping fleet managers understand energy usage, identify cost trends and make better-informed decisions as their fleets continue to evolve.

His message reflects one of the defining themes of this year's 100 Trusted Brands in Fleet report: suppliers are no longer judged solely by the services they provide, but by how effectively they help organisations navigate increasing operational complexity.
