Public Charging Price Watch: network choice can add £18 to one charge

MFG EV Power chargepoints at night.

The difference between public rapid-charging tariffs remains wide enough to make network choice a meaningful fleet-cost decision.

MFG EV Power currently charges 59p/kWh through its app, compared with its standard 79p/kWh rate. bp pulse lists rapid and ultra-rapid PAYG/contactless charging at 89p/kWh.

For a 60kWh charge:

59p/kWh = £35.40
89p/kWh = £53.40

That is an £18 difference from one charging session.

For a driver taking two comparable public charges each week, that gap could exceed £1,800 over a year.

Fastned adds another example of how payment method changes the calculation. Its standard UK tariff is 79p/kWh, with a 10% app discount, while its Gold subscription currently reduces charging to 55p/kWh.

For fleet managers, the message is straightforward: reimbursement policy should not treat all public charging as equivalent.

Where operationally practical, drivers should be directed towards preferred networks, tariffs or payment methods rather than simply using the nearest charger.
