Renault aims for premium-level EV range with next-gen 466-mile platform

Renault Group has outlined the next stage of its electrification strategy, with future electric models capable of up to 466 miles of range.

The leap will come with Renault’s RGEV Medium 2.0 platform, due to arrive from 2028 and expected to underpin C-segment models such as the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric and Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric.

The platform will introduce 800-volt charging technology, allowing batteries to charge from 10% to 80% in around 10 minutes. For drivers covering long distances, that could turn a charging stop into little more than a quick break.

A 466-mile range would also move Renault into territory currently dominated by much more expensive EVs. The luxury Mercedes-Benz EQS offers around 481 miles WLTP, while the Tesla Model S delivers roughly 380–410 miles depending on version.

By comparison, today’s mainstream Renault EVs sit lower. The Megane E-Tech offers around 285 miles of range, while the Scenic E-Tech reaches about 381 miles.

If Renault delivers this level of range in mid-market family cars, it could bring luxury-level EV range into the £30k-£40k segment – the part of the market where many fleet and company cars sit.
