Shine, part of AutoProtect Group, has completed a data-led vehicle review with Fleet Alliance that resulted in its first deployment of plug-in hybrids. After a whole-life cost assessment across multiple fuel types, the company selected four Volkswagen Golf GTEs for its management team — a shift expected to reduce emissions by 96% and avoid more than 109 tonnes of CO₂ over the lease term.
Fleet Alliance representative Chris Rowthorn provided comparative whole-life costs, showing the GTE offered the strongest overall value once fuel savings and employer National Insurance were included. The analysis also gave Shine a clearer view of the long-term savings and operational impact.
“All our drivers are very happy and have been very complimentary about the selection process,” said Liam Buckley, finance operations manager at Shine. He added that Fleet Alliance’s modelling “included expected carbon reductions… which I will be presenting at board level.”
The move forms part of Shine’s wider modernisation programme. The company has also adopted Fleet Alliance’s e-Fleet cloud system to handle reporting, operations and day-to-day vehicle oversight as it integrates more electrified models into its future fleet planning.
