Telematics provider cuts speeding by 88% and accidents by 66%

Mechanical and electrical contractor Blackbourne Integrated M&E has significantly improved fleet safety and efficiency after introducing telematics across its service vans.

The company runs a 45-vehicle van fleet, with around 40 vehicles used for reactive maintenance work. That makes fast response times critical and highlights the importance of safe, efficient driving.

To gain better visibility over its vehicles, Blackbourne installed a fleet management platform from Webfleet with support from Agnew Group. The system tracks vehicle location, driver behaviour and fuel performance, helping the company dispatch the closest engineer to each job while monitoring driving standards.

The results were significant. Within six months, speeding incidents dropped 88%, while accidents fell 66%. Average daily mileage also declined 8%, reducing time spent on the road and improving operational efficiency.

The system also helped the company cut CO₂ emissions by 5%, supporting wider sustainability targets.

Blackbourne facilities director Bryan Campbell said driver scorecards helped engage staff. “Because each driver could measure and monitor their own behaviour… we experienced improvements almost immediately.”
