This week in fleet software: downtime control and smarter SMR flexibility

Alphabet launches downtime management tool

Alphabet (GB) has rolled out a new downtime management platform designed to improve vehicle availability for fleets on maintained lease agreements, with the UK the first European market to receive it. Managed by Alphabet’s downtime management team, the tool provides end-to-end case control, from booking through to repair completion and vehicle return.

At its core is a bespoke workflow delivering real-time updates between agents, workshops, drivers and fleet managers. Alphabet says this allows dynamic prioritisation of jobs, separating planned maintenance from unplanned breakdowns to reduce vehicle off-road time. Enhanced reporting also gives fleets clearer insight into fault causes, supporting targeted interventions such as driver education.

“Our new downtime management platform facilitates end-to-end case control,” said Miles Tetlow, head of service management at Alphabet (GB), adding it reflects ongoing investment in downtime reduction.

Epyx adds flexibility to SMR networks

Epyx has introduced a new enhancement to its 1link Service Network, used to manage SMR for 4.9 million UK cars and vans across 8,200 garages. The update allows fleets to authorise work at non-network garages under Epyx’s own terms, avoiding the delays of credit card payments or opening new supplier accounts.

Marc Lees, business development director at Epyx, said the change removes friction while maintaining fast digital authorisation and pricing control. The development forms part of Epyx’s broader “Hybrid Network” strategy, aimed at giving fleets greater choice without losing efficiency.
