Toyota has revealed the ninth-generation Hilux, confirming the rugged pick-up will, for the first time, be available with an electric powertrain when it launches in 2026.
The new Hilux will be offered exclusively as a double-cab model, carrying over the brand’s proven 2.8-litre mild-hybrid diesel engine, which Toyota expects to remain the top choice for fleet buyers.

The electric Hilux introduces a 59.2kWh battery paired with front and rear eAxles to deliver permanent all-wheel drive. Early data shows a 150-mile WLTP range, 715kg payload, and 1,600kg towing capacity, while Toyota has targeted best-in-class charging speeds to cut downtime for commercial operators. A hydrogen fuel cell variant will follow in 2028, completing the low-emission line-up.
The new model also debuts electric power steering, offering greater precision and reduced kickback on uneven terrain, and expands Toyota Safety Sense to include new systems such as Proactive Driving Assist, Emergency Driving Stop, and Low Speed Acceleration Suppression.
Fleet managers will gain access to enhanced MyToyota app connectivity, enabling live tracking, charge status, and driver analytics across up to ten vehicles.
