UK’s biggest eHGV charging hub signals next phase of electric trucking

A bird's eye view of the UK’s largest dedicated electric-truck charging facility

Electroway has opened what it describes as the UK’s largest dedicated electric-truck charging facility at Magna Park in Lutterworth.

The site has 32 high-power charging bays, with charging available at up to 400kW, alongside around 180 secure truck parking spaces and driver facilities. Bosch Road Services is the technical operating partner.

It is intended to be the first in a proposed 30-site national network, representing an ambition for around £1bn of investment.

For fleet operators, the significance goes beyond one new hub.

Heavy-duty electrification has repeatedly been constrained by the lack of high-power en-route charging, particularly for vehicles that cannot complete every duty cycle from depot charging alone.

A national network of truck-specific charging hubs could begin to change that calculation.

Fleet managers should therefore revisit routes previously ruled out because charging away from base was unavailable.
