Volvo turns the EX30 into a compact electric van

Volvo has taken its smallest EV and turned it into a working vehicle, with the new EX30 Cargo now on sale from £36,010.

At first glance, it’s essentially an EX30 with the rear seats removed, but that simple change makes a big difference. You get a flat load area, 1,000 litres of space and a 390kg payload, plus a bulkhead separating the cabin from the cargo area.

In reality, this isn’t trying to replace a Transit or Vivaro. It’s aimed more at small businesses, urban fleets or trades that don’t need huge load space but still want something easy to drive, park and run day to day.

Because it’s based on a passenger car, it should feel much more like driving a normal EV than a van. You still get features like Google built-in, adaptive cruise control and parking cameras as standard, with higher trims adding things like heated seats and upgraded audio.

There’s also a range of power options, from 152PS up to 434PS, which is unusual for a vehicle in this category.

For fleets, the appeal is straightforward – a compact, fully electric van that keeps the comfort and tech of a car, but adds just enough practicality for lighter-duty jobs.
