ZE Ports and Spirii have introduced an all-inclusive, pay-per-kilometre subscription for heavy electric vehicles that removes the need for operators to buy trucks outright. The service bundles vehicles, depot and on-route charging, renewable power, maintenance, insurance, carbon credits, and battery recycling into one contract. Costs start at €0.90/km (≈£0.78/km) for trucks and €1.27/km (≈£1.10/km) for e-buses, with no upfront capital required.

For a high-mileage fleet, the model offers predictable, usage-linked pricing and full operational support. One 35-truck fleet operating 11 hours daily is projected to save €11.7 million over the contract term—around €336,000 per truck—versus a diesel equivalent. The key disruptor here is not the truck technology itself, but the shift from ownership to subscription, enabling rapid electrification without financial or infrastructure barriers.
