BYD is expanding its UK line-up again, this time with a plug-in hybrid version of the Atto 2 compact SUV aimed squarely at drivers who want lower running costs without committing fully to EV life.
And honestly, this feels like the sort of car a lot of company car drivers are still waiting for.
The Atto 2 DM-i combines a petrol engine with electric power, meaning shorter daily trips can often be done almost entirely on battery power, while longer motorway journeys still have the reassurance of petrol backup.

There’ll be two versions:
- Active: 24 miles of electric range, priced from £26,995
- Boost: up to 55 miles of electric range, priced from £29,995
That larger-battery Boost version is the one that will probably matter most to fleets and salary sacrifice drivers. A 55-mile EV range means many commuters could realistically do most weekday driving without using much fuel at all.
In terms of size and positioning, think Kia Niro PHEV, MG HS PHEV or Hyundai Kona Hybrid alternative.
Inside, BYD is leaning heavily into tech. Even entry-level cars get Google built-in, including Maps and Assistant, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through a large 12.8-inch touchscreen.
Higher-spec cars add heated seats, panoramic roof, wireless charging and a 360-degree camera.
Orders open June 2, with first UK deliveries expected in August.
