Chinese car repair times now match established brands, fleet data shows

Service, maintenance and repair performance for Chinese-built vehicles in UK fleets is now broadly in line with other manufacturers, according to new figures from Epyx.

Data drawn from Epyx’s 1link Service Network shows that average vehicle-off-road (VOR) time for Chinese cars has fallen sharply over the past five years. In 2020, fleets operating Chinese models recorded an average VOR of 2.17 days, compared with 1.58 days for other brands. By 2025, that position had reversed slightly, with Chinese vehicles averaging 1.25 days off-road versus 1.37 days elsewhere.

Lead times for booking maintenance have also narrowed. While Chinese brands trailed slightly in 2025, at 15.73 days compared with 14.88 days for the rest of the market, Epyx says the gap is now marginal.

Tim Meadows, chief commercial officer at Epyx, said Chinese manufacturers have “invested heavily” in UK dealer networks, parts hubs and technician training, helping bring SMR performance up to a competitive level.

However, fleet adoption remains cautious. Chinese brands accounted for 4.30% of new vehicles added to the platform in 2025, up from 0.72% in 2020 but slightly below 2023 and 2024 levels. Meadows suggested visibility on the road may be driven more by retail demand than fleet uptake, with some newer entrants yet to appear in fleet systems at all.
