Fiat's sub-£10k Topolino brings ultra-affordable electric city driving to the UK

Fiat has opened UK order books for the Topolino, an electric city vehicle that costs just £8,995 and tops out at 28mph, making it one of the UK's cheapest and most unusual new electric vehicles.

Officially classified as a quadricycle rather than a conventional car, the two-seater is designed for short urban journeys, local deliveries and last-mile transport rather than motorway driving.

Power comes from an 8PS electric motor and 5.5kWh battery, providing up to 46 miles of WLTP range. Despite its tiny footprint, the Topolino seats two adults thanks to its offset seating layout and includes 63 litres of storage, plus a dashboard-mounted storage box for everyday essentials.

Sharing its underpinnings with the Citroën Ami, the Topolino focuses on simplicity and low running costs rather than outright performance.

While it won't suit most company car drivers, it could prove an interesting option for businesses operating in town and city centres, particularly where short journeys, parking constraints and low operating costs matter more than speed or range. At under £9,000, it also shows how the market for low-cost electric mobility continues to expand beyond traditional passenger cars.
