Four in five UK aftermarket workshops are now equipped to service, maintain and repair electric vehicles (EVs), according to new research by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The survey, conducted by Censuswide, highlights that 81% of workshops have already invested in training, talent and tooling for EVs, while 83% expect to increase this spend within the next year.
The report also found 78% of workshops can service advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), with most planning further investment in skills and equipment. With 1.6 million EVs already on UK roads, the aftermarket’s role is critical in supporting the government’s zero-emission targets and maintaining road safety.
SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: “The UK aftermarket is embracing the future of automotive technology, and investing in the skills and equipment needed to maintain the very latest vehicles to help deliver safe, sustainable mobility for all.”
