SMMT figures highlight the huge drop in UK CV production, versus the record performance 12 months ago.
Commercial vehicle output slumped 81.1% against last year’s record July.
UK car production rose 5.6% in July to 69,127 units, marking a second month of growth.
Year to date, total vehicle production is down 11.7% at 489,238 units.
Exports accounted for 79.4% of July’s car output:
45.6% bound for the EU
18.1% to the US
7.7% to China
7.2% to Turkey
3.4% to Japan
Exports to Turkey rose 35.4%, Japan 14.9% and the US 6.8% to almost 10,000 units. Meanwhile, shipments to the EU fell 7.9% and China 7.1%.
Independent forecasts predict recovery from 2026 with 803,000 units.
