Stellantis has confirmed plans for a new generation of small, lower-cost electric cars designed to bring genuinely affordable EV motoring back to the European market.
The new line-up, simply called “E-Cars”, will begin arriving from 2028 and will sit across multiple Stellantis brands including Vauxhall, Peugeot, Fiat and Citroen.
In practical terms, these are expected to be compact hatchbacks and small urban cars sitting somewhere around today’s Fiat Grande Panda, Citroen e-C3 and Vauxhall Corsa Electric in size and positioning. Think affordable commuter cars and city-friendly company cars rather than oversized premium SUVs loaded with expensive tech.
Stellantis says the cars will stay under 4.2 metres long, helping keep them lighter, easier to park and, crucially, cheaper to buy and run. The company has also hinted that some costly features and performance-focused hardware could be stripped back to improve affordability and speed up production.
That matters because genuinely accessible EVs have become increasingly rare, particularly for drivers who simply want something practical for commuting, local business mileage or family use without stretching into £40,000-plus territory.
The move also reflects growing pressure from cheaper Chinese EV brands entering Europe with aggressively priced small electric cars.
Antonio Filosa, Stellantis CEO, said customers were “calling for a revival of small, stylish vehicles” that are affordable and built in Europe.
Production is expected to begin in 2028, with the first models likely to arrive shortly afterwards.
