Zapmap's UK charging-infrastructure update - 2025

Zapmap has released new figures showing strong growth in the UK’s public EV charging infrastructure during the first half of 2025. A total of 8670 new charge points were installed, marking a 27% year-on-year increase. The UK now hosts 82,369 devices (110,486 EVSEs) across 40,479 locations.

Charging hubs – defined as sites with six or more rapid or ultra-rapid chargers are growing fastest. In H1 (Jan-Jun) 2025, 136 new hubs were added, bringing the UK total to 673. These sites, suited to long-distance travel, offer high-speed charging and improved amenities, reflecting the future of EV infrastructure.

Ultra-rapid devices (150kW+) grew by 23%, reaching 8619. For the first time, they now outnumber rapid chargers. Installations included major projects by Osprey, Be.EV, Source and RAW Charging, with hubs launched in Watford, Manchester, Edinburgh and Merseyside.

Regionally, nine of 12 UK areas now host over 1200 high-powered chargers, with Scotland and the North West seeing year-to-date growth of 29% and 21% respectively.

Low-powered charge points still make up the majority (nearly 80%), including 29,227 on-street devices. While London dominates this segment, the rest of the UK saw faster growth in H1, with a 25% increase in on-street chargers outside the capital.
