Aion UT supermini to be priced from £28,950

The Aion UT is the new Chinese supermini ready to take on established European competitors such as the Renault 5, Mini Cooper Electric and Volkswagen ID.3 Neo. It's set to arrive in the UK in September, starting from £28,950.

That makes it more than £8,000 more expensive than the basic Renault 5, which starts from £21,495 with the Government's Electric Car Grant (ECG) included.

However, it has a bigger battery than the Renault and promises more for the money. For instance, Aion claims a 268-mile range from its 60kWh battery pack along with a 0-62mph time of 7.3 seconds.

Furthermore, Aion is backing all UT models with its Great 8 Promise; this provides an eight-year basic warranty, eight-years of servicing, eight-years of roadside assistance, and free MOTs until the vehicle's eighth birthday.

For fleets, the Aion UT represents a lot of car for the money. While not undercutting rivals such as the Renault 5 and Fiat Grande Panda on price, it does slide under the usual threshold of larger EVs, such as the ID.3 Neo and Cupra Born. The Great 8 package also has great appeal for fleet managers when it comes to maintenance and after-sales.
