Electric vans becoming more affordable – BVRLA

The UK electric van market has seen notable progress in affordability and suitability, according to the latest BVRLA Road to Zero Report. The rental and leasing industry body says there has been a significant increase in the number of electric vans offering more than 200 miles of range and priced under £40,000. This marks a major step forward compared to seven years ago, when there were virtually no options in this category.

Speaking at the BVRLA’s Fleets in Charge conference, policy and public affairs director, Thomas McLennan, described the shift as encouraging, particularly as the van sector has faced greater challenges than the electric car market. He noted that while improvements are more evident among smaller vans, product development across the sector is heading in the right direction.

However, the report also highlights ongoing hurdles. Demand for electric vans remains sluggish, vehicle prices are still relatively high, and both public charging availability and the cost of installing private charging infrastructure continue to pose significant barriers to widespread adoption.
