In the US, General Motors is exploring a solution to speed up charging times for heavy-duty electric commercial vehicles with large battery packs.
The firm filed a patent with the United States Patent & Trademark Office on 26 November, 2024, for a technology which it believes could solve issues of slow charging. The solution involves equipping vehicles with multiple charge ports and separating the batteries into smaller ‘subpacks’ connected in parallel. This allows individual batteries to be charged via a single charge port or from two ports simultaneously.
